OU started two freshman offensive linemen in the same game for the first time in recorded program history against Mississippi: Michael Fasusi and Ryan Fodje. Fodje is making his first start, while Fasusi is making his fifth start.
Fodje is starting in place of redshirt senior Derek Simmons, who left the game against Texas with a left leg injury. Simmons is a transfer from Western Carolina who started in 10 games last season, allowing zero sacks in 417 pass-blocking snaps.
During the early second quarter, three consecutive penalties pushed the Sooners’ offense back towards their own endzone, resulting in a safety when freshman running back Tory Blaylock was tackled.
The Sooners have also struggled to find a run game so far, managing 12 yards on only nine carries.
Mississippi currently leads 22-13 against OU at the beginning of the third quarter.
