Anne Hathaway would love to rekindle a friendship with Lindsay Lohan, according to a source.

The Devil Wears Prada actress, 42, “has known, liked and respected” the Mean Girls actress, 39, “for many years now,” the source tells Star.

“Right now, Anne is very impressed with Lindsay’s instincts and re-entry into Hollywood,” the source claims. “The invitation to join Anne’s very tight clique of East Coast-based actresses/moms, including Jessica Chastain, is there, and Lindsay just has to pick it up and run with it.”

The source explains that since Hathaway “has lead roles in two of the most hyped movies of next year, The Devil Wears Prada 2 and The Odyssey,” the Oscar winner “wants her good girl gang to support her on the red carpet and beyond.”

However, the source adds that Hathaway and Lohan have “genuine respect” for each other, noting that the Princess Diaries star “has even publicly defended Lindsay” in the past.

“Anne and Lindsay have a great history together, and they’ve both been through a lot of drama and come out the other end stronger women for it,” the source remarks.

Back in 2012, amid Lohan’s legal troubles, Hathaway made a statement saying she doesn’t judge the former child star, as everyone makes mistakes.

“I never sit in judgment. Lindsay Lohan and I have more in common than people think,” Hathaway told The Sun, according to Page Six. “We’ve all done things we shouldn’t. It is just that I did stuff at college when nobody knew about it. I’m not a saint. I wasted time doing self-destructive things. I found out you can only dance on so many table tops.”
