Application deadline approaching: ‘Honolulu City Lights’ permit needed for non-profits

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Monday is the deadline for non-profit organizations to apply for display permits for Honolulu City Light on Frank F. Fasi Civic Center grounds.

Five display sites will be awarded to non-profit organizations through a lottery held on Wednesday, Sept. 24. Selected groups will be responsible for setting up and maintaining their displays.

Application and proof of non-profit status must be submitted on Sept. 15 at 4:30 p.m. to the Department of Facility Maintenance in Kapolei to eligible for the lottery.

A lottery system was established due to strong community interest from private groups wishing to showcase displays.

The drawing will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 10:00 a.m. in the Mission Memorial Auditorium on 550 South King Street.

To qualify, applicants must be:

  • A non-profit organization under HRS Chapter 414D.
  • A charitable organization formed pursuant to HRS Chapter 467B.
  • A tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Permit applications, detailed instructions, and rules governing the use of Civic Center grounds may be obtained by contacting Chassity-Ann Santiagoat (808) 768-3357 or via email at chass.santiago@honolulu.gov.
