The Minnesota Vikings, Lynx, and Twins all play on Sunday.
MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis will be packed with sports fans on Sunday because the Lynx, Twins, and Vikings all have home games.
“I think everybody knows how last season ended and we had a lot of feelings about that, so I’ve been calling it our 2025 revenge tour,” said Carley Knox, the president of business operations for the Minnesota Lynx.
The Lynx have won 34 games. Knox said the team has tied the WNBA record for most wins in a regular season. Sunday they’ll play the Golden State Valkyries in the first game of the playoffs.
“It’s been an unbelievable ride and for us to secure the No. 1 spot with five games left to go this season was pretty incredible,” Knox said. “This team is so incredibly motivated; we returned all five of our starters, have some incredible players coming off the bench.”
Even though she said this team is stacked with incredible players, she said they’re just going to take it one game at a time.
“There will be no easy game through this playoff run, but I’m just excited to watch what we’re going to do with this incredibly special group,” she said. “It’s been an unbelievable ride, and I’m so excited for us to kind of jump on this, this playoff wagon and hopes everybody jumps on and joins us as well, and we’re just picking up speed, picking up momentum.”
Several Vikings fans stopped by the team store at the stadium to get last-minute gear.
“We flew in from New Jersey this morning,” said Amy Holland. “We were hoping there was going to be a SKOL chant on the airplane and there was not. There were a lot of Vikings fans on the airplane.’
Amy traveled to Minnesota with her husband Sean and son Carter. This is their first year as season ticket holders.
“We are so excited to be here,” Amy said. “We’re going to win, this is the year, this is the year.”
Amy said they’re abnormal New Jersey fans because they don’t cheer for the Giants or Jets. Amy’s dad was a Viking fan, so she’s been cheering for the purple and gold her whole life.
Carter got a new J.J. McCarthy jersey. He said he’s excited to watch the Vikings throw the football.
The Romeo family also traveled to attend the Vikings’ home opener. Michael Romeo flew in from the West Coast while his brother, Ed Romeo, and nephew, Dominick Romeo, flew in from the East Coast. This is the first game all three of them have attended together.
“Last time him (Ed) and I went to a Vikings game it was 1985. He was 14, and it was in California,” Michael said.
Ed said it’s amazing to attend his first Vikings home game with his son and brother. He said he can’t wait to experience one Minnesota Viking tradition.
“Just hear everyone scream Skol. You watch it on TV, and I got to believe here, it’s just going to rattle me,” Ed said.
“I’m looking forward to the start of it. Just hearing that drumbeat, get the Skol chant ready, and the announcement of the team and Adam Thielen coming back,” Michael said.
Michael said Ed called him in the spring wanting to do something special for his son’s birthday, so they decided to go to a Vikings game.
“My whole life I’ve been a Vikings fan, followed in my dad’s footsteps, and I had heartbreaks throughout the years watching them, but we stay true to the Vikings fans, and it’s really a blessing to be out here and be able to experience this,” Dominick said.
Within an hour of being in Minneapolis, the three of them decided this was going to be an annual trip.
The Minnesota Vikings will play against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday evening.
The Twins also play Sunday afternoon. They’ll play against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and then they’ll play the New York Yankees on Monday.
