Branson nonprofit moves forward with building tiny homes, even with a stop-work order from the city

BRANSON, Mo. (KY3) – Elevate Branson is continuing to work on constructing tiny homes for low-income elderly and disabled people, even with a stop-work order from the city.

“We did have a stop-work order. It was only on the foundations of the homes. We thought the building permits had been submitted, so we started building the foundations, then realized they hadn’t been submitted,” Elevate Branson Director Hannah Witcher said. “The building permits have since been submitted, and we’re working with the city pretty closely to talk through some of those issues and make sure they’re resolved.”

Branson city leaders wouldn’t confirm whether they had issued a stop-work order. KY3 was told to submit a formal sunshine law request.

Witcher said the stop-work order was just a tiny hiccup in Elevate Branson’s overall goal of building tiny homes and making them affordable for those who need it most.

“We really want affordable and safe housing because it’s (affordable housing) is such an issue in this area,” she said.
