Many believers ask, “Are miracles really for today?” It’s a question rooted in honest struggle—how many times have you prayed for a breakthrough or healing only to feel like nothing changed?

In a powerful interview with Kap Chatfield on the Directed Life podcast, David Diga Hernandez, a minister with a healing gift, addresses this tension with refreshing honesty and encouragement.

Hernandez shares how his passion for healing ministry grew over time, inspired by healing evangelists at his dad’s church in Paramount, California. But he’s quick to clarify: “I do not claim that I can, at will, heal people… Nor do I believe in the Old or New Testament they were healed by their own will. It’s always the sovereignty of God.” Healing isn’t about human power but about partnering with God’s miraculous work through prayer and faith.

One of Hernandez’s most powerful testimonies is deeply personal—his wife’s miraculous pregnancy. After facing fertility challenges and hearing medical experts suggest IVF, Hernandez felt led to ask a pastor to pray for his wife. Immediately after the prayer, the pastor declared, “It’s done.” Within weeks, they conceived their first daughter, a true miracle. Their second daughter’s birth involved medical intervention, and Hernandez gratefully calls that a “medical miracle.” Both instances testify to God’s glory working through both supernatural and natural means.

Hernandez emphasizes a balanced, compassionate approach to healing ministry. “I’m not preaching a doubt-filled message like ‘maybe God will heal you, maybe He won’t.’ Every time I pray for someone, I believe they will be healed.” But he also acknowledges the mystery in why some are healed and others aren’t. “It’s cruel to say someone ‘lacked faith’ if they aren’t healed,” he explains. He has seen people with great faith who weren’t healed and others without much faith who were. The bottom line: “We lay hands, God does the healing and we trust Him with the results.”

Hernandez prays often for the sick, including hospital visits, and sometimes sees miracles, sometimes not. Healing testimonies from recent services include a woman healed of skin rashes and a child who no longer had a crooked eye. These stories remind us that God’s healing touch is real and ongoing.

Ultimately, miracles today are not about human control but about God’s loving intervention. The healing ministry is a call to faith-filled prayer and compassion for those who suffer, trusting that God is at work even when we don’t see immediate results. Jesus said, “Your faith has healed you” (Mark 5:34), and today, God invites us to have that same kind of faith to believe He will do the impossible.
