Who Is Dr. Mario Molina?

Dr. Mario Molina

Dr. Mario José Molina was a trailblazing Mexican chemist whose research changed the course of environmental science forever.
In the 1970s, Molina co-authored a groundbreaking study that revealed how chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) — once common in aerosols and refrigeration — were destroying the ozone layer that protects Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation.

This discovery not only redefined global environmental policy but also earned him the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, making him the first Mexican-born scientist to receive this prestigious honor.

🧬 A Legacy of Discovery and Leadership

Dr. Molina’s work went far beyond the laboratory. His findings inspired the landmark Montreal Protocol, a worldwide environmental agreement that successfully reduced the use of ozone-depleting chemicals.
He continued advocating for climate awareness throughout his life, serving as a scientific advisor to global leaders, including U.S. Presidents and international organizations.

At the heart of his mission was a belief that science and humanity must work hand in hand — a message that continues to resonate across generations.
