A new play group for children ages 0-6 is coming to Clay Center. Organized by Catherine Rohovit, the group will be held on the first Saturday of every month from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at the Hebron RP Church, located at 1328 Goodin Dr., Clay Center, KS.

“My idea for ‘Moms with Littles’ began after I organized VBS for ages 0-10 at our church this summer. I noticed many of the children attending VBS were ages 0-6,” said Rohovit.

One of the most successful aspects of VBS, she shared, was the connection time for the moms and the organized learning environment for the children. After reflecting, she thought that she should make it a regular event.

Rohovit was also inspired by her love for littles. She has a bachelor’s degree from K-State in Early Childhood Education and taught at the Ark Preschool for five years. Now, she stays home with her children, but she still has a passion for creating positive learning experiences for children during the little years.

“My goal by offering this program on a Saturday is to appeal to all moms, working, as well as stay-at-home moms. I know it is hard, if not impossible, to attend activities on weekdays while also working,” she said.

Other goals, Rohovit shared, include creating a welcoming learning environment, spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, and creating a community of moms that build each other up as they raise their children.

Each group will include a Bible lesson, playtime, a snack, craft, music, and outside time, weather permitting. Another added perk of the group is that it’s indoors, making it perfect for the hot and cold seasons when outdoor play is less enjoyable.

“This outreach is important to me, but also to the community. Our community offers a few options for organized children’s activities or after-school programs. I would like to think ‘Moms with Littles’ can become an additional activity for the youngest kids in our community, and a positive learning experience that happens,” said Rohovit.
