Jennifer Aniston found herself at the center of some harsh criticism after making comments on why she chose not to adopt children.
During her appearance on the October 20 Wondery+ early access episode of Armchair Expert, Aniston, 56, was asked if she had “found peace” with her decision to not have children.
“It’s so peaceful,” Aniston replied. “But I will say there’s a point where it’s, like, out of my control. There’s literally nothing I can do about it.”
The Morning Show star continued, “When people say, ‘But you can adopt,’ I don’t want to adopt. I want my own DNA in a little person. That’s the only way, selfish or not, whatever that is, I’ve wanted it.”
Fans were divided on Aniston’s opinion with one person writing on Reddit, “This is a gross take imo, especially from someone who wants and is well off enough to adopt multiple children.”
Another added, “Oof. She really shouldn’t have said anything at all.”
However, there were plenty of people who applauded the Friends alum for her honesty regarding adoption.
“I don’t think it’s self centered to want your own biological kids,” one Redditor wrote. “There’s nothing altruistic about adoption, unless you’re talking about adopting an older child with behavioral problems.”
This isn’t the first time the subject of Aniston not having children has become a topic of conversation, and she’s been open about her struggle with infertility. In December 2022, she told Allure that her journey to have children was “challenging.”
“My late 30s, 40s, I’d gone through really hard s**t, and if it wasn’t for going through that, I would’ve never become who I was meant to be,” Aniston told the outlet. “I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.’ You just don’t think it. So here I am today. The ship has sailed.”
