Dear reader,
Living in Central New York, you can always feel summer winding down when the New York State Fair begins and high school sports teams start practicing. Syracuse.com has long had the best, most comprehensive coverage of local high school sports, and this year will be even better with some new and exciting features.
Last week, we kicked things off by hosting three media days at Cicero-North Syracuse High School to showcase the incoming athletes from across the region. High school sports editor James McClendon says this event has grown exponentially since 2021, when it was a one-day event focused only on football. “Last week, over 1,500 athletes, from nearly 400 Central New York teams and from 14 different sports, walked through the Cicero-North Syracuse stadium doors during our three-day event,” he said.
“This fall’s media days featured everything from football and field hockey to marching band. Athletes and coaches from these sports were interviewed by reporters, they posed for several team photos, and they created viral TikTok videos. One of the most exciting aspects of our media days has been giving hundreds of high school athletes and coaches the opportunity to catch up and have some fun with other athletes and coaches who will soon be lined up across the fields as rivals.”
If you’re a parent of a local high school athlete, James says subscribing to syracuse.com is a must. In addition to just keeping up with the latest news, you can get analysis, team rosters, standings and individual player statistics for all of Section III. If you’re a subscriber, you also have the ability to download high-resolution photos from every game we cover.
And starting this fall, we’re excited to announce that we’ll be offering some live streaming video. “Subscribers will have exclusive access to watch and replay live streams of eight regular-season and two postseason high school football games. The streams will feature sports reporters Kenny Lacy Jr. and Ryan Storie as the voices of the high school football broadcasts each week,” James said.
“Our live video coverage will give fans and family members an in-the-stands experience, even if they can’t make it to the games in person. The fall lineup begins with a clash of longtime rivals Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4. We are most looking forward to our coverage of the Class AA state championship rematch between Syracuse’s Christian Brothers Academy and CBA Albany on Sept. 13.”
We’re also launching a new weekly newsletter that will be available only to subscribers to keep up with the latest HS sports news, and that will launch on Monday, September 1. You will be able to sign up for it on our newsletters page, and make sure to bookmark the high school sports homepage for all the latest news and navigation to every sport, team and athlete in the region. If you don’t have a subscription yet, you can sign up here.
