Franco Mastantuono has been the name and conversation point of the week from Real Madrid and its fanbase. There’s been plenty of social media posts from Madrid aggregators and fan pages showing off training skills and moves from the Argentine.
He made his debut against Osasuna in the second half and entered to a loud round of applause from the fans.
Mastantuono seems to be the guy that Madrid fans have gotten behind and it seems like Xabi Alonso may be just as big of a fan and could start him as soon as Sunday.
According to Diario AS, Xabi Alonso is contemplating starting the youngster against Oviedo as it seems unavoidable that he will crack the starting eleven.
Brahim Diaz started the game against Osasuna but failed to impress and he’s always seemed like a player who isn’t a starter level player for Madrid but more of a spark off the bench.
The other option would be Rodrygo but it doesn’t seem like Xabi Alonso fancies the Brazilian winger, being benched consistently and linked to a move away.
If Alonso continues to not favor the Brazilian, then Mastantuono only has to beat out Brahim Diaz which feels like a likely outcome.
With the backing of the manager, the club, and the fans Mastantuono has a high chance to start this Sunday against a team that just got promoted.
As Diario AS said whether it’s now or in a few weeks, it feels inevitable that Mastantuono will take the starting spot in the right wing position.
