Kevin Federline is sounding the alarm regarding his ex-wife Britney Spears.
“The truth is, this situation with Britney feels like it’s racing toward something irreversible,” Federline, 47, writes in his upcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew, per The New York Times. “It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK.”
“From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour,” the former backup dancer continues. “Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.”
Federline and Spears, 43, were married from 2004 to 2007, and they welcomed sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, during their time together. However, their split involved a messy custody battle over their children that didn’t end until 2008.
Federline told The New York Times that he and the “Toxic” singer “haven’t spoken in years.”
In the book, Federline also claims the former couple’s sons, Sean and Jayden, raised concerns about her erratic behavior, explaining the boys were reluctant to return to their mother’s home because they were afraid.
“They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep — ‘Oh, you’re awake?’ — with a knife in her hand,” he writes in one chapter. “Then she’d turn around and pad off without explanation.”
Regardless of Spears’ past issues, Federline insisted in his interview with The New York Times that he still cares about her wellbeing.
“I’ve never, ever, once, been against Britney,” Federline explained to the outlet. “I’ve only tried to help my sons have an incredible relationship with their mother. And it’s hard because when I really reflect on everything that’s happened — my kids do not know the woman that I married. And I’ve spent two decades trying to bridge that gap.”
