Manheim group prepares for annual car show
The group is hosting its annual car show to raise money for three nonprofits that serve communities throughout the Susquehanna Valley.
COME TOGETHER TO ALL HAVE ONE GOOD CAUSE THAT’S WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK IN LANCASTER COUNTY. BUT THEY NEED YOUR HELP TO HELP SUPPORT THE NONPROFITS, HELP FOR HELP. THERE YOU GO. WELL, IF YOU LIKE MOTORCYCLES, CARS AND BARBECUE CHICKEN, THIS ONE IS FOR YOU. SERTOMA CLUB OF MANHEIM IS HOSTING ITS ANNUAL CAR SHOW AND IT’S ALL TO HELP NONPROFITS HERE IN THE AREA. NOW I HAVE MARK AND STEVE JOINING ME THIS MORNING. MARK, I’M GOING TO START WITH YOU. YOU ARE A MEMBER OF MANHEIM, AND YOUR SON ACTUALLY IS BENEFITING FROM ONE OF THE ORGANIZATIONS THAT’S TAKING PART IN THE FUNDRAISER. WHY IS THIS FUNDRAISER NEEDED TO SUPPORT PEOPLE LIKE YOUR SON? WELL, MANHEIM SERTOMA I’VE BEEN A MEMBER FOR ABOUT 40 YEARS, AND WE DO A LOT FOR THE COMMUNITY. AND ELLIOT, HE WORKS FOR HOPE SERV, AND HE’S GETS A LOT OUT OF THAT, GETS INDEPENDENCE BY HAVING A JOB THERE. AND IT’S BEEN VERY GOOD FOR HIM. MARK THANK YOU. AND STEVE, COULD YOU EXPLAIN MORE ABOUT HOPE SERVED AND WHY HOPE SERVE IS A HUGE PART OF THE MANHEIM COMMUNITY? WELL, HOPE SERVES WORKING TO CREATE JOBS FOR FOLKS WITH DISABILITIES. SO ELLIOT IS A MEMBER OF OUR CAFE TEAM AT OUR HOPE SERVE CAFE IN MANHEIM. HE’S A BARISTA, AND IT GIVES HIM AN OPPORTUNITY TO USE HIS SKILLS AND SERVE THE COMMUNITY. HOW CAN PEOPLE HELP AND SUPPORT HOPE SERVE IF THEY WOULD LIKE TO DO THAT? SO IF YOU GO TO OUR WEBSITE, HOPE SERVE ORG. IT GIVES YOU INFORMATION ON THE WAYS YOU CAN GET INVOLVED AS A VOLUNTEER OR EVERYTHING WE’RE DOING. AND WE’RE JUST SO THANKFUL FOR THE CLUB. WE AS A GRASSROOTS NONPROFIT, WE NEED SUPPORT FOR THE COMMUNITY LIKE THIS AND REALLY QUICKLY. WHERE WOULD THE FUNDS GO TO OR HOW WOULD THE FUNDS SUPPORT HOPE SERVE TO CONTINUE TO DO WORK FOR THOSE WITH DISABILITIES? SO THE BIG PROJECT WE’RE WORKING ON NEXT IS RENOVATING THE FORMER MANHEIM MENNONITE CHURCH INTO A WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT CENTER THAT’S GOING TO HAVE A TEACHING KITCHEN AND A RESTAURANT. SO WE’RE RAISING FUNDS TO COMPLETE THAT PROJECT. WHAT A GREAT WAY TO HELP THOSE IN NEED. WELL, THEY ARE GEARING UP FOR THAT CAR SHOW, WHICH IS GOING TO BE ON SATURDAY. The Sertoma Club of Manheim is fueling up for a purpose, and it is all to support local nonprofits. The group is hosting its annual car show to raise money for three nonprofits that serve communities throughout the Susquehanna Valley. Those organizations include the Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community, Hope Served and the Home of Ferdinand Manheim Community Life Group.The car show features hot rods, classic cars and motorcycles. To prepare for the show, the Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community prepared a token of appreciation for select visitors, including residents.
