Sheridan HS Tennis: The Sheridan High School tennis team has a new skipper at the helm who is also adapting to a change in scenery.
Scott Dickey used to own a tennis club in southern California for the past 30 years, but he recently sold the business, because he wanted a slower life-style.
He saw the job opening in Sheridan and also teaches lessons at the indoor courts in his spare time.
So far the Broncs are 3-0 on the season and the Lady Broncs are 2-1.
Coach Dickey says he’s impressed with what the players have done so far, and with his background, he adds he can teach them a few extra things.
Sheridan is scheduled to play again this Friday at home vs. Cody, and on Saturday at home vs. Powell.
Big Horn HS Football: Every team lost its share of players from last year’s team to graduation.
Some teams such as Big Horn lost more than others, but the Rams are working on overcoming that situation.
Among the players that are returning is junior Cruz Hernandez who led the state last year in all classes of 11-man football in average rushing yards per game.
Head Coach Kirk McLaughlin says this year’s underclassmen got a good amount of playing time last year, and they’re eager to show what they’ve learned.
BH is scheduled to play a scrimmage on Thursday in Casper, against the Natrona County sophomore team.
University of Wyoming Football: The Wyoming Cowboys are continuing preparations for this Thursday’s season opening game at Akron.
The Pokes return about 80% of its offensive production from last year, but only about 32% of its defense.
Last year the Brown and Gold’s “D” led the Mountain West Conference in opponent 3rd down conversion rate, but was the worst at stopping teams in the red zone.
Head Coach Jay Sawvel says while the offense will try to keep the defense off the field as much as possible, there’s going to need to be some players to answer the call, when that doesn’t happen.
Kickoff this Thursday is scheduled for 5pm.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies were off yesterday, and will start a 3-game series today at Houston.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:10pm.
With 31 games remaining on this year’s schedule, the Rocks need only win 5 of them, to be better than last year’s Chicago White Sox team, who had the worst record in the modern era.
