Sheridan HS Volleyball: The Sheridan High School Volleyball team got a wake up call this past weekend when it came to facing teams for the second time in conference play.

When the Lady Broncs played Cheyenne East and Cheyenne Central one month ago on the road, the girls beat both in 4 sets each.

In Round 2 at home, Sheridan needed 5 sets to beat the Lady Thunderbirds, and then had a 2-nothing lead on the Lady Indians and ended up losing in 5.

Head Coach Danielle Sullivan says there were times when the players did not have heads in the game.

The Lady Broncs are on the road this weekend as they play at Laramie on Friday and at Cheyenne South on Saturday.

University of Wyoming Football: Everything went right for the Wyoming Cowboys in their 4th quarter comeback win this past weekend against San Jose State.

It started when Brayden Johnson picked off a deflected pass and ran 65 yards for a score.

When the Pokes got the ball back, Kaden Anderson hooked up with Charlie Coenen on a 45 yard TD play to tie the score at 28.

For Coenen, that was his only catch of the game.

UW would get the ball back again, and marched 80 yards in 33 seconds, capped off by Terron Kellman’s 28 yard run, which would be the game winner with 40 seconds remaining.

Kellman ended up slipping through 3 tackles on that play, and says once he did that, he had to keep his excitement under control.

Anderson was 23 of 39 for 304 yards with 2 TD tosses.

The Brown and Gold are now 3-3 overall, and have a 1-1 record in the Mountain West Conference.

Now the team has turned their attention to this coming Saturday’s game at Air Force, who are 1-5 on the season, and 0-4 in the conference.

The Falcons are tops in the conference in terms of scoring offense, total offense, offensive touchdowns, rushing offense, pass efficiency, passing yards per completion, and 3rd down conversion rate, but the team is last in total defense, especially against the pass, the worst in scoring defense, defensive interceptions, and are the second worst in defensive sacks and red zone defense.

Taking all those stats into consideration, the best strategy for Wyoming could be…the best way to stop a good offense, is to keep them off the field.

Kickoff this Saturday is scheduled for 1:30pm.

University of Wyoming Men’s Basketball/Former Sheridan College Coach Steve Smiley: The Wyoming Cowboys are about ready to tip off their season, and not only will the team play in northeast Wyoming this weekend, a former Sheridan College coach will be at the game.

The Pokes are scheduled to play Northern Colorado in an exhibition game this coming Saturday and the game will be played at Gillette College.

UW 2nd Year Head Coach Sundance Wicks is a 1999 graduate of Campbell County High School.

For Northern Colorado, Coach Steve Smiley held the same position at Sheridan College from 2008-2014, leading the Generals to at least 24 wins each season.

This past season, the Golden Bears finished tied for 1st in the Big Sky Conference regular season, and lost in the conference tournament championship game.

Last week Smiley’s son, Madden, who was last year’s Colorado 5A Player of the Year, gave a verbal commitment to play for the Brown and Gold.

Tip off this Saturday from the Pronghorn Center in Gillette, is scheduled for 4pm.

Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche lost on Saturday at home vs. Dallas 5-4, and won back on Monday at Buffalo 3-1.

The Avs next play tomorrow at Columbus.

Denver Nuggets Pre-Season Basketball: The Denver Nuggets won their pre-season game back on Sunday at the LA Clippers 102-94 and won another pre-season game last night at home vs. Chicago 124-117.

The Nuggets are scheduled to play their final pre-season on Friday at Oklahoma City.

The regular season starts one week from tomorrow.

Major League Baseball Playoffs: Yoshinobu Yamamoto became the first pitcher in 8 years to toss a complete game in the post season, as the LA Dodgers won Game 2 of the best of 7 National League Championship Series last night at Milwaukee 5-1.

The Dodgers lead the series 2-zip.

Game 3 is scheduled for tomorrow at LA.

In the American League Championship Series, Game 3 is today as Seattle hosts Toronto.

The Mariners lead that series 2-games-to-none.
