MEMPHIS, Tenn. – With the increase of federal agents in Memphis, the Latino community speaks about their presence around the city.

During an interview with En Resumen Noticias, a news outlet catering to the Latino community, officers discussed their plans for addressing these unprecedented times.

Mauricio Calvo, CEO of Latino Memphis, said people in this community are living in fear.

“We know people are concerned, and the more activity they see, some people are going to start staying home, stop going to school, medical appointments, work,” Calvo said.

Calvo said the local law enforcement isn’t their biggest concern; they’re more worried about the federal agencies.

During MPD’s interview with the Latino-geared news outlet, the officers said immigration is none of their concern.

The officers said throughout all of this, they’re going to continue to focus on general crime and helping victims.

Calvo said right now his organization is reminding the people in his community to know and understand

“We need to expect transparency, accountability, and ultimately, we need to be working for lasting solutions. This is just a band-aid,” Calvo said.

Other members of the Latino community told FOX 13 they support the federal agencies.

Right now, Calvo said his organization is reminding people to know and understand their rights.
