On Sunday, nearly 100 volunteers worked at the Masjid Al-Tawba mosque, scooping rice, packing food, and preparing meals for those in need.
Islamic Relief gathered on Sunday morning with a goal of preparing and bagging 20,000 meals, enough food to feed 3,500 families in the Minnesota area.
The nutrient-rich meals include rice, chicken stock and dehydrated vegetables, which are put into 93 boxes that will be given to two organizations, Al-Maa’uun and Harvest from the Heart.
Volunteer Nora Nashawaty says she is happy to have the opportunity to help others in need.
“When your basic need is not met when you don’t have enough food on the table, when you don’t know when your neck where your next meal is coming from. It’s really tough to be able to do anything else that brings you joy and anything else that gives your family any sort of fulfillment” Nashawaty said. “So being able to provide those basic meals to the local community so that they can focus on other needs is really such a joyful experience.”
