CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Artists in Charlottesville are getting blank canvases, but these have four legs.
20 fiberglass Labrador statues still be painted and displayed next summer on the Downtown Mall and across Albemarle County.
The project called Art Unleashed will end with and auction in October 2026.
The money raised will help Service Dogs of Virginia build a new facility on Route 29.
This space will let the nonprofit double the number of service dogs it trains each year.
“We provide dogs to people with disabilities without charge to the client, and we want to get ourselves out into [more] places in the community that don’t know about us,” Service Dogs of Virginia Executive Director Peggy Law said, “In order to raise funds for a new facility that we’re building so that we can double the number of dogs, we provide.”
For those interested in painting for being involved you can check out their website here.
You can submit your prototype at Service Dogs of Virginia P.O. Box 408, Charlottesville Virginia, 22902 by November 1, 2025.
They will notify who got chosen November 15, 2025.
