With a new season of Dancing With the Stars soon underway, and many fans already working to uncover the identities of Season 34’s stars, some are also likely wondering what star has the best chance of actually winning the Mirrorball trophy.
In 33 seasons, spread over 19 years, the ABC show has seen a myriad of competitors from all walks of celebrity life compete–and also win the show.
With a potential Season 34 cast shaping up following cryptic hints on social media, studio spottings, and more, fans are likely curious to see which celeb might have the biggest advantage going into the competition.

While the show has had various competitors and eventual winners, some patterns suggest a higher probability of winning the Mirroball trophy.
In fact, while looking at past winners of the show, factors including their sex, their profession that makes them a celebrity, their age, and their pro partner, can all have an impact.

The show has awarded 33 celebrities a Mirrorball trophy and the title of Dancing With the Stars champion, but female celebrities seem to have a slight advantage in terms of winning.
While the number of male and female winners is nearly a 50/50 split, the odd number of past seasons does give the edge to women—17 winners versus 16 for the men.
With a cast that is rumored to have more female competitors than males thus far on Season 34, there could be a chance that they once again have the edge when it comes to winning.
Similarly, certain pro partners have the highest odds of winning. While Derek Hough, the pro with the highest number of Mirrorball Trophy wins at 6, no longer competes on the show and serves as a head judge, two other male pros, who are tied with the second-highest number of Mirrorball wins, are set to compete on Season 34.

Those pros are Mark Ballas and Val Chmerkovskiy, who each have three wins.
This could mean the fiercest edge in Season 34 goes to the two female celebrities partnered with them, though other pros certainly shouldn’t be counted out.
For example, there also appears to be a magic age that shows a better chance of winning.
Of the 33 winning celebrities, most were in their mid-to-late 20s or early 30s when they won, with a few notable examples of teenagers or older celebrities winning.

However, four celebrities—Season one winner Kelly Monaco, Season two winner Drew Lachey, Season 15 winner Melissa Rycroft, and Season 33 winner Joey Graziadei–were all 29 years old when they won.
When the ages of all 33 winners are averaged together, the result is the same—an average age of 29 for all of the winners in the show’s history.
Finally, a surprising number of winners have also all shared the same profession–and it may not be the most obvious one.
While Olympic athletes tend to fare well on the show, with six Olympian gymnasts and skaters combined all winning Mirrorballs, another group actually tops the list of winners.

Though the show has six Olympic champions overall, they are split across two sports–four skaters and two gymnasts. The skaters can also be further split, as three were figure skaters/ice dancers, and one was a speed skater.
A category that cannot be filtered down, though, is those who had careers as actresses in film and television, making the category the one most likely to produce a winner.
Six actresses have won the show: Monaco, Jennifer Grey (Season 11), Amber Riley (Season 17), Rumer Willis (Season 20), Bindi Irwin (Season 21, double-billed as the only Wildlife conservationist to win), and Xochitl Gomez (Season 32).
So will a 29-year-old female actress who is partnered with Val or Mark win Season 34? Only time will tell.
The Season 34 cast will be revealed on Wednesday, Sept. 3, on Good Morning America. The season premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 16, on ABC and Disney+.
