Paramount Plus’s new TV and movie releases for August 25-31, 2025, include three titles: The Friend, Liberation: D-Day to Berlin, and Halloween II.

Monday, August 25, 2025, brings The Friend to Paramount Plus. This drama movie is based on Sigrid Nunez’s 2018 novel of the same name. It was directed by David Siegel and Scott McGehee, who worked on the screenplay together. The film stars Oscar nominees Naomi Watts and Bill Murray as two best friends, Iris and Walter. Iris’s life changes when Walter suddenly passes away, and his dog, a Great Dane, is entrusted to her care. Over the course of the story, Iris, who faces eviction from her apartment, bonds with the dog. Supporting cast members of the film include Ann Dowd, Constance Wu, Carla Gugino, Sarah Pidgeon, Felix Solis, and Owen Teague.

Next, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Liberation: D-Day to Berlin (Season 1) premieres on Paramount Plus. This political and war documentary premiered on the Smithsonian Channel in January 2025 and ran for four episodes. Using restored and colorized footage, the documentary chronicles the events of World War II and the liberation of Western Europe.

Finally, on Friday, August 29, 2025, Halloween II premieres on Paramount Plus. Rick Rosenthal directed the film from a screenplay penned by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. As a direct sequel to Halloween, the story follows Michael Myers as he continues his attempts to murder Laurie. Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence, Charles Cyphers, Jeffrey Kramer, and Lance Guest make up the film’s main cast.
