Phoenix nonprofit seeks donations for Operation Beat the Heat

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — During this recent stretch of extreme heat, it’s a good idea to spend time indoors. But that’s not possible for everyone, and a Phoenix-based nonprofit is seeking donations to help those in need beat the heat as well.

P.I.T.C.H. Initiative is an organization dedicated to fostering impact through the power of sports and providing essential resources to those in need, including the unhoused. And that is something good!

One of the nonprofit’s annual events is called Operation Beat the Heat, an effort to deliver critical, lifesaving essentials to not only the homeless but also to others experiencing hardship. And P.I.T.C.H. is asking for help to raise supplies and funds.

P.I.T.C.H. Initiative Founder and CEO Nicolette Hawthorne and team member Ariana Bourque visited Good Morning Arizona on Monday to detail Beat the Heat and how you can help. Watch the video above for more.

For seven years, the group has collected water, cooling supplies, hygiene kits and pet essentials, which are then distributed by volunteers along the streets of Phoenix during the hottest time of the year. That event is coming up on Saturday, Aug. 23.

But first, the nonprofit is hosting a drive-through donation event from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, at its headquarters, located at 4745 N. 7th St. in Phoenix.
