The Houston Texans have placed running back Joe Mixon on the reserve/non-football injury list. The running back has been out with a foot injury that he sustained while away from the team.
As part of being moved to injured reserve, Mixon will officially miss at least the first four games of the season. The Texans made the announcement on Monday, saying that they will officially move Mixon to IR on Tuesday.

Mixon has been on the active/non-football injury list throughout the preseason, and has not practiced throughout training camp.
When speaking to reporters on Monday morning, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans declined to provide an update on Mixon’s injury status, via multiple reports, saying that most of the team’s roster decisions would be announced on Tuesday.
Mixon was traded to Houston last offseason after seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. During the 2024 season, Mixon racked up 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns as the Texans’ starting running back, earning his second Pro Bowl nod as a result.

With Mixon out, Nick Chubb officially steps in as Houston’s starter. In addition to Mixon and Chubb, the Texans have five other running backs on the roster, though it is unclear how many of them will make it to the final 53-man roster.
