It may not have started out the way they expected, but the Yankees handled their business and won their series with the Twins — the sixth series they’ve taken in their last seven tries. Their playoff push has been re-ignited after nearly getting swept in a four-game set with the Sox in August, but time is running out and there’s no room for error even as they face off with weak opponents to close things out. To that end, they’re off to Baltimore for a showdown with the Orioles next, a team that was fighting tooth-and-nail with them for the division just last year but now is sitting in the cellar. They’d surely love to play spoiler, so there’s no overlooking them.
To that end, Matt starts our day off with a series preview on the Orioles and the pitching matchups. He’ll then pop back in for the Rivalry Roundup where the Yankees did gain ground in the AL East race, Jeff weighs in on how the Aaron Judge/Cal Raleigh race for AL MVP is great for baseball, and John covers a near-immortal performance from Bartolo Colón against the 2000 Yankees in the latest Diary entry.
