Donald Trump attempted to justify deploying the U.S. military to Chicago to supposedly crack down on crime by dubiously citing the support of one particular demographic.
On Friday, the president suggested that the crime crackdown was requested by “the people in Chicago,” who he insisted “are screaming for us to come.”
Trump then claimed these citizens of Chicago who are clamoring for military intervention in their city “are wearing red hats, just like this one. But they are wearing red hats. African American ladies, beautiful ladies are saying, ‘Please, President Trump, come to Chicago, please.’”
Exactly who these beautiful, MAGA-supporting African American ladies from Chicago are is unclear — if they exist at all.
It’s not like Trump is popular in Cook County, Illinois, where he only got 28.4% of the vote in 2024.
Oh, and he previously lied about the crime rate in Washington, D.C., when he deployed the National Guard there a few weeks ago.
As a result, there were a lot of social media skeptics.
