Large schools (5A-4A)

1. Edna Karr (6-0): The Cougars have not allowed a touchdown on defense in the first half against any of their five Louisiana opponents this season, including Brother Martin in a rout last week. Jesuit is next on the schedule.

2. John Curtis (5-0): All three district wins were clinched with late stops on defense, including an interception return touchdown by Jewellz Tapp that kept Holy Cross from making a comeback last week.

3. St. Augustine (5-1): The Purple Knights shook off a Week 5 loss to Karr with a rout of Jesuit, but Rummel stands as the next formidable opponent with the teams set to play Saturday at Yenni Stadium.

4. Destrehan (4-2): The Wildcats reached 50 points for the third time in five games and will visit high-scoring Captain Shreve (4-2) this week for a rematch of Destrehan’s 46-42 victory last season.

5. Rummel (4-2): The Raiders, who built a four-touchdown lead on Easton last week, are No. 6 in the latest LSHAA Division I select power ratings, three spots behind No. 3 St. Augustine — this week’s opponent.

6. Brother Martin (4-2): The schedule gets no easier after losses to Rummel and Karr with Curtis up next. Brother Martin has lost four in a row against Curtis, including once in the playoffs last season.

7. Jesuit (4-2): The Blue Jays successfully moved the ball against St. Augustine but struggled to reach the end zone until late in the lopsided loss. Up next is Karr, which Jesuit played close in a 21-9 loss last season.

8. St. Charles (5-1): The Comets get an impressive bounce-back win against 5A contender Terrebonne after a final-play loss to St. James. District play starts in two weeks against Belle Chasse.

9. Shaw (4-2): The Eagles, set to visit Walker, held off St. James in a matchup between two teams that reached the state finals last season. That’s three wins in a row after the 1-2 start with losses to Karr and Rummel.

10. Lakeshore (5-1): The Titans rebounded from an unexpected Week 5 loss to Salmen and beat reigning state runner-up Franklinton in the district opener — ahead of another key 7-4A game against Pearl River.

Small schools (3A and below)

1. Kennedy (3-3): The Cougars, coming off a win against Booker T. Washington to open district play, will face Sophie B. Wright this week.

2. Riverside (5-1): The Rebels, set to face West St. John in a game that could decide the 10-1A title, reached 40 points for the fourth week in a row.

3. Newman (2-2): The Greenies, after a second open date in the past four weeks, cannot overlook Cohen — a team that challenged Country Day into the fourth quarter.

4. Northlake Christian (3-2): This week’s matchup against Pope John Paul II could ultimately decide the 9-2A title — just as it did when Northlake won 27-21 last season.

5. South Plaquemines (5-1): The reigning state champions are No. 2 in the LHSAA Division IV nonselect power ratings and have a week off before opening district play against Country Day.

6. De La Salle (1-5): The Cavaliers opened district play with a lopsided win against Sophie B. Wright — and have L.B. Landry next in a rematch from when De La Salle won 31-30 last season.

7. Pope John Paul II (4-2): The Jaguars reached 40 points for the third time this season in a rout of St. Thomas Aquinas and will face Northlake in a key district game Thursday.

8. Country Day (3-2): The high-scoring Cajuns have scored 225 points over the past four weeks — with quarterback Hudson Wright as the main difference-maker since his return from a concussion.

9. Young Audiences (4-0): The Yaks believe they can challenge for the 9-3A district title. Games against Thomas Jefferson and Haynes over the next two weeks could decide that.

10. L.B. Landry (2-3): The Buccaneers lost three district games by a combined 10 points last season — and can avenge the first of those losses this week against De La Salle.
