WILLITS, CA., 9/30/25 — The Willits Center for the Arts will host its seasonal fall exhibit opening Saturday featuring artwork by members of the nonprofit Nuestra Alianza de Willits. The event will also have seasonal food and beverages that celebrate Mexican culture.
Nuestra Alianza is a nonprofit group that serves the local Latino and immigrant population in and around Willits.
For the fall exhibit, the Willits Center for the Arts will have Día de los Muertos altars and other Mexican arts and crafts created by members of the Nuestra Alianza community.
Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday that celebrates ancestors and other people in one’s life who have passed away. People who celebrate the holiday often make altars with photos, marigolds, candles and the deceased’s favorite foods.
Although Dia de los Muertos isn’t until the first weekend of November, Nuestra Alianza’s executive director Sergio Perez is eager to share Mexican culture with the Willits community.
“It makes me proud to have this exhibit,” Perez said. “It feels good to present it to the community of Willits. It’s good to show the new generations what we have learned in Mexico.”
The exhibit will open Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the Willits Center for the Arts, 71 E. Commercial St., and remain on display through Oct. 26. The center is open Fridays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit willitscenterforthearts.org.
