Keon Coleman made an unforgettable first impression on the general public when he was chosen by the Buffalo Bills within the second round on April 27.

After making a memorable introduction in the course of the NFL’s opening press conference, many have compared him to the likes of Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson – but not due to his talents on the sphere.

The former Michigan State and Florida State star wore a yellow jacket during his introductory press conference, and through an exchange with a reporter, Coleman revealed that he purchased the fashionable coat at Macy’s.

While Coleman spent the 2023 season playing in Tallahassee, he began his college football profession in East Lansing, Michigan, a spot that typically experiences cold winters. Coleman’s two-year stay at Michigan could prove helpful as he prepares to play in frigid Western New York starting in the autumn.

– Do you might have a coat from here? asked the reporter.

“Man, did you forget I went to school in Michigan for two years?” Coleman asked the reporter. “But guess where I got it?” I’m saying you might have to guess. Although you might be mistaken, but guess.

“Tom Izzo,” the reporter replied. Izzo is a longtime coach of the Spartans men’s basketball team.

– No, Macy’s. What do you mean? They will likely be on sale on the stand. All the colours. Listen, $79, $89, not a nasty deal,” the NFL rookie said. “You can purchase this trench coat for about $100. I take it personally. Maybe I’ll try more colours. I want a blue one and one other red one.

A blue or red coat would match the Bills’ team colours.

Another reporter then suggested that Coleman could also reap the benefits of price cuts around Thanksgiving. However, the 20-year-old Louisiana resident opposed this concept and said he prefers to look for deals on winter clothing in the hotter months.

“I shop like my mom,” Coleman told a reporter. “I purchase coats in the summertime. Just to be on the secure side, it’s worthwhile to shop a season or two prematurely, after which it should be cheaper since you go on Thanksgiving, everyone (shops) on Thanksgiving.

After about 12 minutes of answering reporters’ questions, Coleman noticed cookies lying on a close-by table.

At the tip of the press conference, he asked, “Can I have some of these?” He then walked to the table, opened the container and eventually shared the cookie with someone within the room before heading towards the exit.

According to data from ScoutColeman is predicted to earn just below $10 million over 4 years, including an estimated signing bonus of $4.1 million due at signing. Coleman’s average annual deal value will likely be just below $2.5 million.

Once an NFL player is drafted, he’s subject to the league’s rookie pay scale. Article 7(1) NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement states that contract terms for novices are “immutable”. Each player chosen in the primary round receives a four-year contract. Coleman was chosen within the second round of the draft but continues to be eligible for a four-year contract, although his contract is not going to run for a fifth yr – a clause that’s reserved for first-round draft picks.

Former NFL star Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson learned about Coleman’s viral press conference. Johnson, who’s notoriously frugal, praised Coleman for being sensible along with his money.

“@Ochocinco is REALLY gone now like Keon Coleman.” one person wrote on X

“Keon Coleman is today’s version of @ochocinco and I’m here for it!” one other person wrote.

“That’s what discipline is,” Ochocinco said. “It started at home.”

He then said, “If you already have that kind of financial awareness, we don’t have to worry about him.”

However, Johnson also encouraged Coleman to spend a few of his money on something he would enjoy.

“Even though you’re in the right head, boy, you’ve put in too much work to get to this point in your life… you need to heal,” Johnson said in the course of the April 28 episode of the “Nightcap” podcast.

In January 2023, Johnson told Sharpe that he didn’t wish to travel on private jets and would as a substitute fly with Spirit, a preferred low-cost airline.

“I’m not flying on a private plane, Spirit, put me in Spirit…exit row, window seat, that’s all I need. As long as I get from point A to point B. I don’t need a private car,” Johnson told Sharpe. “And especially athletes, if you can get to a point in your career where your name becomes more important than anything you can buy, that’s your value.”

AND viral video also appeared, showing Coleman explaining his Waffle House order.

“A bowl of sausage, egg and cheese. Scrambled eggs from four eggs with cheese. A piece of pork chops, potato pancakes with cheese and Hi-C,” Coleman said. Coleman also didn’t seem aware of Waffle House’s braised or covered hash browns.

“We put cheese on it, mix it and eat it, that’s what we do,” Coleman said within the video.

Coleman was asked about his connection to Waffle House during an April 28 media session.

“I eat Waffle House so much at night that I have the chef’s number pinned to my news feed,” Coleman said.

While Coleman’s personality will likely endear him to fans and teammates, he can also be a playmaker on the football field. He finished the 2023 season with 11 touchdown receptions and may develop into Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s leading wide receiver once the 2024 NFL season begins.
