It’s almost time for AppleTV+ to premiere its long-awaited latest series “The Big Cigar,” and the streamer dropped the primary trailer this week.
Andre Holland stars because the infamous leader of the Black Panthers in “The Big Cigar” and is joined by an all-star solid. Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone, PJ Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Dalton, Olli Haaskivi, Jordane Christie and Glynn Turman star in the six-episode series based on the 2012 Playboy magazine article “The Big Cigar” by Joshua Bearman.
Bearman is an executive producer on the project, together with Jim Hecht and Janine Sherman, who served as showrunner.
Don Cheadle directed and executive produced the primary two episodes of the series, each of which is able to debut on Friday, May 17. The remaining episodes of “Big Cigar” might be released on subsequent Fridays.

“The Big Cigar” tells the incredible true story of how the Hollywood revolution meets social revolution. It’s a crazy joke about Black Panther founder Huey P. Newton escaping from the FBI to Cuba with the assistance of famed producer Bert Schneider as a part of an impossibly complicated plan – involving a fake film production – that fails in every possible way.
With a lot talent on-screen and behind the scenes in this limited series, it’s sure to pay dividends in some ways. Tiffany Boone never disappoints and Holland is consistent in his ability to deliver improbable performances. With the likes of Cheadle and Sherman on the helm, we’re expecting top-notch entertainment when the series premieres next month.
