While some celebrities tend to overshare when it comes to parenting, others have maintained a low profile over the years — so much so that they’ve even avoided revealing that they have kids.
Here’s a roundup of famous figures who opted to put privacy first and keep their kids’ birth a secret:
1. In 2023, Adam Driver casually revealed that his wife, Joanne Tucker, had given birth to their second child eight months prior. “I have an older son who is six, and so she, now she’s eight months, and you kind of forget how much babies kinda suck,” he said as he discussed what it was like raising a newborn again. “The first time, it went too fast, and I was so anxious for him to kind of develop so he could communicate and tell me what was wrong.”

Driver noted that he was focused on trying to “enjoy” parenting a little more the second time around.
2. A month after privately welcoming her second child, Mindy Kaling publicly shared on Stephen Colbert’s talk show, “I’m telling it for the first time now, it feels so strange. But I gave birth to a baby boy on September 3.” Colbert replied, “No one even knew you were pregnant!” to which Kaling said, “I know! I know! This is news to a lot of people.”

3. Michael Cera is super, super private when it comes to his personal life. In fact, he wasn’t even the one to eventually reveal that he’d welcomed a child — Amy Schumer was. In March 2022, Schumer — who starred alongside Cera in “Life & Beth” — publicly said, “Michael has a baby, too. Is that public knowledge? I just outed him, I just outed his baby.” Days later, Cera clarified that he and his wife, Nadine, had indeed welcomed their first child together six months prior.

4. Just five months after announcing the arrival of her and John Legend’s third child, Chrissy Teigen revealed that they’d welcomed a fourth baby via surrogate. She wrote, “We want to say thank you for this incredible gift you have given us, Alexandra,” referring to their surrogate. “And we are so happy to tell the world he is here, with a name forever connected to you, Wren Alexander Stephens.”

5. In 2022, Rebel Wilson left fans shocked when she revealed that she’d welcomed her first child. “Beyond proud to announce the birth of my first child, Royce Lillian, born this past week via surrogate,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a sweet photo of the little one. “I can’t even describe the love I have for her, she’s a beautiful miracle!”

“I am forever grateful to everyone who has been involved, (you know who you are), this has been years in the making…but particularly wanted to thank my gorgeous surrogate who carried her and birthed her with such grace and care. Thank you for helping me start my own family, it’s an amazing gift. The BEST gift!!” Wilson said.
“I am ready to give little Roycie all the love imaginable. I am learning quickly…much respect to all the Mums out there! Proud to be in your club,” she added.
6. Roughly two years after the birth of her and Elon Musk’s first son, X Æ A-12, Grimes casually revealed during a Vanity Fair interview that they’d quietly welcomed a daughter. The writer of the interview noted that they heard a “lone cry from an infant upstairs” while chatting to Grimes, who eventually “buried her face in her hands” and said, “I don’t know. I don’t know what I was thinking.” The artist later revealed that her daughter’s full name is “Exa Dark Sideræl Musk.”

7. Eight days after welcoming her and John Mulaney’s second child via surrogate, Olivia Munn broke the news on Instagram. She wrote on September 22, “Méi June Mulaney came into the world September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon. I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter. When I first met our gestational surrogate we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel. Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for 9 months and made our dreams come true.”
8. At the start of 2023, Riley Keough’s husband, Ben Smith-Peterson, confirmed that they quietly welcomed a daughter in 2022. While sharing a tribute on his wife’s behalf during a memorial service for Lisa Marie Presley, he said, “I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters. Thank you for giving me strength, my heart, my empathy, my courage, my sense of humor, my manners, my temper, my wildness, my tenacity. I’m a product of your heart, my sisters are a product of your heart, my brother is a product of your heart.”

9. During a Thanksgiving-themed episode of his talk show in 2021, Seth Meyers revealed that he and his wife, Alexi Ashe, had secretly welcomed their third child, Adelaide, months prior. Enlisting the help of his sons to break the news, Meyers shared a video of the boys bouncing around in turkey outfits before unveiling their newborn sister in a matching costume. The talk show host beamed as he announced, “We had another one, you guys!”

10. Kirsten Dunst welcomed her second child with Jesse Plemons in the summer of 2021 — though she didn’t reveal the news until months later, during an interview with the New York Times. In the interview, Dunst casually introduced the writer to her son, named James Robert. “This is the newest guy, the Big Kahuna,” she said. “He’s an angel, but he’s a hungry angel. And a heavy angel.”

Opening up about raising the little one, Dunst admitted that — as expected — she was pretty exhausted. “I’m so tired, I haven’t slept through the night in four months. I’ve developed an eye twitch, too,” she said before laughing and adding, “Yeah, I’m in a really special place.”
11. Back in 2020, rumors swirled that Jessica Chastain and her husband, Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo, had welcomed their second child after the pair were spotted out and about with their daughter, Giulietta, and a baby. However, it wasn’t until years later that Chastain confirmed she was a mom of two. While accepting the Best Actress Oscar for her role in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” Chastain said, “Giulietta, Augustus, you are my heart.”

12. Sophie Turner welcomed her and Joe Jonas’ first child in July 2020, but she didn’t publicly acknowledge her pregnancy at all until September, when she unveiled previously unseen photos of her baby bump.

Two years after their first daughter, who is named Willa, Turner and Jonas welcomed a little girl named Delphine. The couple were married at the time, though sadly parted ways in 2023.
13. As you might recall, Kylie Jenner famously kept her entire first pregnancy a secret, only revealing that she’d welcomed her daughter with Travis Scott days after she was born. At the time, Jenner wrote in part on X, “I’m sorry for keeping you in the dark through all the assumptions. I understand you’re used to me bringing you along on all my journeys. Pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world.”

Jenner also shared a sweet, 11-minute video, titled “To Our Daughter,” which featured behind-the-scenes footage from her pregnancy journey.
14. In September 2020, Donald Glover revealed that he and his wife, Michelle White, had welcomed their third child during the coronavirus pandemic. Explaining that the little boy, also named Donald, was born amid protests over George Floyd’s murder, the artist recalled, “It was nuts. I was in the hospital bed. My son had just been born, like, an hour before, and I was watching the George Floyd video. It was such a weird moment.”

15. Last year, Wayne Brady revealed that he’d secretly welcomed a child with his ex-girlfriend. “My family is everything to me, but there are some things I’ve never told anybody outside of this immediate family. Like, I happen to have a 6-month-old son that people don’t know about,” he shared on his reality series, “Wayne Brady: The Family Remix.”

Brady also recalled being “floored” when he first found out that his ex, Tina, was pregnant. “When I first found out … I was floored. A 51-year-old dad? I didn’t see it coming. So was I happy? No. Because I was in shock,” he said.
16. Pauline Chalamet — sister of Timothée Chalamet — surprised fans last year when she casually revealed at Paris Fashion Week that she’d welcomed her first baby “three weeks ago.” The actor was filmed telling director Greta Gerwig, “I just had a baby,” to which a very surprised Gerwig replied, “No!”

17. And finally, Constance Wu confirmed that she’d welcomed her first child with her partner Ryan Kattner almost a year after her birth. In fact, the actor had managed to keep the news a total secret until it was leaked to E! News in December 2020. She said on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in May 2021, “I had a beautiful baby girl in August. She’s the best.”
