The Movies for Grownups Awards with AARP are getting a little more treacherous in 2026.
Alan Cumming, the four-time Emmy-winning host of The Traitors, has been tapped to emcee the awards ceremony on Jan. 10, 2026. This will be his fourth time as the event’s host.

Every week on The Traitors, Cumming serves as the proud “castle daddy” of Peacock’s mystery-murder program, taking delight each time a contestant is banished or killed. Next year, he’ll be seen on the big screen in Avengers: Doomsday, reprising his role of Marvel character Nightcrawler.
The 25th annual event will celebrate the best movies and TV shows of the 2025 calendar year that resonated with the 50-plus crowd. The group’s most recent Best Picture winners were A Complete Unknown (2024), Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), Top Gun: Maverick (2022), and Belfast (2021). The last time their top pick matched up with the Oscars was Green Book (2018).
For 24 years, AARP has used these awards to promote and honor great stories and talent that show age positively in entertainment. The kudos will shine a light on winners in major categories like Best Movie, Best TV Series, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Director.
Keep an eye out — the nominees and the Career Achievement Award honoree for the 2026 Movies for Grownups Awards will be announced soon.
After winning the Emmy for Best Reality Host, Cumming talked to Gold Derby about the new all-civilian edition of The Traitors, coming next year to Peacock. His advice to all of the aspiring contestants out there? “Lay low to start with, ’cause the ones who come in too heavy usually crash and burn.” He also revealed, “You’ve got to try and remember, it’s just a game. It’s sort of a Lord of the Flies situation where all of the contestants become completely illogical, just because they are in this bubble.”
Cumming was one of Gold Derby readers’ top choices to host next year’s Emmy Awards on NBC. The entertainer clearly knows his way around an awards show, having emceed the 2015 Tonys with Kristin Chenoweth, and will surely bring his fearless wit and humor to the Movies for Grownups stage for the fourth time.
