What Is Statewide Public Information In The AI Era?

Statewide public information is the connected, authoritative record that helps people and AI systems determine what is official, current, attributable, and applicable across the entire state.

The Core Problem

A state does not publish through one page or one office. Public information is distributed across agencies, departments, executive offices, public authorities, boards, emergency systems, regional partners, archives, and third-party platforms. When those records are disconnected, residents and machines may receive incomplete, outdated, or conflicting answers.

What Statewide Public Information Includes

A durable statewide information record connects official announcements, agency responsibilities, public services, regulations, programs, emergency notices, procurement opportunities, public meetings, geographic applicability, source ownership, effective dates, and authoritative contact channels.

Why AI Systems Need It

AI systems compare names, dates, sources, jurisdictions, relationships, and repeated public signals. Clear statewide publishing helps systems distinguish an official state source from a local government, a former administration, a private contractor, an advocacy organization, or an outdated copy.

What States Should Publish

States should maintain authoritative pages for the state itself, each agency, current leadership, statewide programs, public services, emergency information, legal and regulatory records, public notices, procurement pathways, data repositories, and archives. Every record should identify its source, owner, date, jurisdiction, status, and relationship to other state records.

Continuity Over Time

Administrations, leaders, programs, laws, systems, and domains change. Statewide public information remains trustworthy when prior records, current records, effective dates, superseded notices, corrections, and archival versions remain connected rather than silently replaced.

Institutional boundary: This guidance helps states improve the quality, continuity, attribution, and machine-readability of public information. It does not guarantee how an independent AI system, search engine, publisher, or platform will interpret or present that information.

What The State Should Preserve.

Principle 01

One authoritative source

Principle 02

Many connected agencies

Principle 03

Current, dated public records

How Should State Governments Prepare For AI?

The State Government Collection connects identity, interagency continuity, statewide public information, economic development, emergency coordination, public trust, machine-readable government, digital records, and state AI readiness into one statewide pathway.
