Kathy Kinney starred alongside Drew Carey for nine seasons on The Drew Carey Show. Her character, Mimi Bobeck, was known for her outlandish eye makeup. After wrapping The Drew Carey Show, Kinney starred in The Secret Life of the American Teenager but has largely stepped away from the spotlight in the years since.
Kinney, 70, nearly went unnoticed during a recent trip to the grocery store in Los Angeles late last month. In photos from the outing, obtained exclusively by Examiner, the actress wore blue jeans paired with a white button-up shirt and dark blue sneakers. She topped off her look with a paisley-print bowl hat and sunglasses.
Before landing her big break on the ABC sitcom, Kinney appeared in small roles in shows like Seinfeld, Full House and Boy Meets World.

Kinney was originally cast to appear in only the pilot episode of The Drew Carey Show, in a role that would see her turned down from a cosmetics job at Winfred-Louder. However, after positive feedback, she was brought on as a full-time cast member.
“They need someone as mean and powerful as me to give him trouble,” Kinney told The Philadelphia Inquirer in 1996. “Otherwise, life’s too easy for him.”
She seemingly knew her ordinary life would never be the same after landing that role, as she told The Los Angeles Times that same year, “I think the quiet days must be over for me.”
