EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — Pumpkins, sunshine, and tropical vibes – fall is in full swing at the First Baptist Church of Horizon, where the community is coming together to celebrate the season while supporting a meaningful cause.

This year’s theme is all about blending fall tradition with a touch of paradise.

But beyond the bright colors and cheerful setup, there’s a powerful purpose behind it all. Every pumpkin sold helps fund the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and their outreach in local schools. Debra Armes-Ferrell event coordinator shared “We have about 3,000 pumpkins out here,” Armes-Ferrell said. “We’re selling pumpkins to bring in money so we can continue supporting their lunch meetings at the high schools. 100% of what we raise goes to that program.”

The pumpkin patch isn’t the only thing drawing families in. From pet adoptions hosted by the El Paso Animal Shelter to a Bark-toberfest Dog Costumer Contest. Later in the month, the festivities continue with the hilarious “Granny Pants Challenge” and live music from the Mike Beeler Band.

Scott Quiroz, Fellowship of Christian Athletes area representative, says their goal is to reach students right where they are – through coaches, faith, and fellowship. “Coaches are the most influential people in the kids lives,” Quiroz said. “Especially in high school, they see our kids everyday so that’s why we direct our area of ministry towards them and do our Bible studies.”

During these lunch studies, the FCA team provides pizza – a simple but meaningful gesture. “The kids have to forego their lunch in order to meet with us,” Quiroz said. “We like to provide for them that lunch and than they go on their way, we try to do this every semester.”

For Quiroz, the impact is deeply personal. “Just to see kids grow and my relationship grow with Christ,” Quiroz said. “To see the excitement kids have for a Bible study and for God’s word.”

Whether you’re picking up the perfect pumpkin, adopting a furry friend, or cheering on the granny pants challenge, every smile and laugh helps make a difference – one pumpkin and prayer at a time.
