Dick Van Dyke has a big birthday coming up — the Hollywood legend will turn 100 years old on December 13 — but he recently got a chuckle out of thinking about what would happen if his time ran out before he made it to triple digits.

“That’s right. I’m not officially a hundred until December,” Van Dyke said during the Vandy High Tea event at the Vandy Manor in Malibu, California, on Sunday, October 5, according to People. “Two months. Two months. It’d be funny if I didn’t make it.”

However, he wasn’t completely glib about turning 100.

“I brag sometimes about how I made it to a hundred and the truth is, if I had known I was going to live this long, I would’ve taken better care of myself,” he said. “And it is frustrating because I don’t know what I did right. Other than her, I didn’t do anything right.”

Van Dyke was referring to his wife, Arlene, who he married in 2012.

The Mary Poppins star’s birthday will be celebrated nationwide on December 13 and 14 when a new documentary on his life is released in theaters. Steve Boettcher’s Dick Van Dyke: 100th Celebration will focus on his extraordinary career in Hollywood and will feature interviews that Boettcher has collected over the past 30 years from some of Van Dyke’s closest friends, like Mary Tyler Moore, Betty White, Tim Conway and more.
