WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – James Buddy McGirt was a professional boxer from 1982 to 1997, compiling a record of 73 wins, including 48 by knockouts, 6 losses, and one draw. He won two World Titles, the IBF Junior Welterweight crown and the WBC Welterweight Belt. An outstanding pro career.
After his boxing career, he became a trainer, handling some of the best in the world. He won the Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year award in 2002. He knew at a young age that he wanted to eventually train boxers.
In 2019, McGirt was honored with induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota.
