Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt is considered “week to week” after he missed Saturday’s 42-10 loss at Utah due to injury, head coach Kenny Dillingham told reporters postgame.
“I think that’s the fairest way to put it,” Dillingham said. “We’ll evaluate Sunday, Monday and then see what happens (at practice) on Tuesday and Wednesday, then make a decision from there.”
Leavitt made the trip up to Salt Lake City, wearing a boot over his right foot.
He was ruled out on Friday after appearing as probable on Wednesday’s Big 12 availability report and doubtful on Thursday.
Dillingham told Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marotta on Friday the quarterback had been dealing with the injury since the Baylor game.
“At the end of the day, we got to protect people from people,” the coach said.
If Leavitt has to miss another game, Jeff Sims would be lined up to make his second straight start. Sims was 18 of 38 for 124 passing yards with 52 rushing yards on 21 carries at Utah.
“Obviously the timing, I think the more he’s back there, the better timing he’ll get with the guys,” Dillingham said postgame of Sims’ play, noting it was hard to judge the first half because of heavy rain and winds. “I was pleased with his performance.”
ASU hosts conference frontrunner Texas Tech at 1 p.m. MST on Saturday.
