Academy Sports + Outdoors is bringing its 17th Alabama location to Gardendale.
Mayor Stan Hogeland announced the deal on social media, saying it came together “after many years of persistent recruiting.”
According to Hogeland, the 55,000-square-foot store will be located on Odum Road near Exit 271 off Interstate-65, next to Longhorn Steakhouse.
Site prep is currently underway.
“New jobs, increased revenue and new shoppers will pay dividends to our city for many years to come,” Hogeland said. “Economic development and attracting this type (of) business is highly competitive and I couldn’t be prouder that Gardendale was chosen for their newest store.”
Academy has more than 300 stores across 21 states, selling outdoor goods, apparel, sports and recreation equipment and footwear.
