Tom Daley has opened up about filming that gratuitous shower scene featured on The Celebrity Traitors last week.

Since The Traitors’ premiere, one of fans’ favourite tropes about the show has become seeing B-roll footage of the “Faithfuls” relaxing in their hotel rooms while the “Traitors” contemplate which of them to “murder”.

Before the Olympic gold medallist was killed off by the Traitors, footage of him scrubbing himself in the shower was included, which certainly caught viewers’ eye at the time.

Speaking to Metro about the shot in question, Tom claimed: “Those bedtime shots are always a little bit tongue in cheek and a little bit on the nose. That’s the fun of it.

“It plays into the campiness of it all, because The Traitors is a pretty camp show.”

Referring to a similar scene featured in the regular show earlier this year, Tom quipped: “I was like, why not? Do a random shot in the shower. I’m gonna join the Freddie shower club.”

However, the diver was quick to point out that he wasn’t actually fully nude for the shoot, which he described as a “surreal” experience to film.

Freddie also poked fun at the similarities between his and Tom’s shower scenes on TikTok after the episode aired.

The Celebrity Traitors is a shorter series than the regular run, clocking in at nine episodes rather than 12, with two airing a week instead of three.

Although initially no one was sent packing in the first instalment, things have picked up considerably, with three banishments and three “murders” having now taken place.

The most recent instalment of Celebrity Traitors also ended on a cliffhanger which saw singer Charlotte Church, daytime presenter Kate Garraway and historian David Olusoga’s lives all hanging in the balance ahead of the next “murder”.

The Celebrity Traitors continues on Wednesday and Thursday night on BBC One at 9pm.
