Watch: Why Vanna White Gets 331 Days Off a Year from ‘Wheel of Fortune’
Vanna White‘s work schedule will make your head spin.
After all, the 68-year-old spends nearly two hours just trying on outfits for Wheel of Fortune and Celebrity Wheel of Fortune star, which she co-hosts with Ryan Seacrest.
“I show up here at seven in the morning,” the famed letter-turner shared from the game show’s set in E! News’ exclusive look at her day. “I try on 30 to 40 dresses for fittings for the show, and then I go into hair and makeup at about 8:30.”
After glam, Vanna said she typically “do a few interviews” before her first taping.
“We start our first show at 11:30,” she noted, “and then we do many, many shows.”
Indeed, Vanna Ryan—who took over hosting duties from Pat Sajak in 2024—film several episodes of Wheel of Fortune in one day. That’s why she gets 331 days off in the year.
“We film about 34 days a year,” Vanna previously explained on Elvis Duran and the Morning Show in March. “That’s it.”
That totals to six different wardrobe changes—not counting the gowns she had tried on earlier in the day.
But to make filming less taxing on Vanna, producers streamlined the taping process over the years, including replacing her puzzle board from manual-turning letters to one that switches with a touch.
“First, I physically turned the letters,” Vanna explained. “And then, I went to touching the letters. Now, a couple of years ago, they changed the set where honestly I don’t even have to touch the letter.”
So, how does the new puzzle board work?
“There’s a laser,” revealed the TV personality, who has been co-hosting Wheel of Fortune since 1982. “And the motion of my hand that gets near the letter, it will light up.”

And for Vanna, all that time under on set is worth it.
“This is a half-hour of family fun and escape from so much,” she told Parade in 2024. “It’s such a positive family show. I love being part of that.”
Celebrity Wheel of Fortune airs every Friday on ABC.
