BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Heart of Maine United Way is on the move.
The non-profit is relocating from its current space on Main Street in Bangor to 700 Mount Hope Ave, Suite 101.
This is the future home of “The Community: Maine’s Nonprofit Hub.”
Heart of Maine United Way is moving its offices there, as well as creating space for other nonprofits to join them.
The vision for the space is that of collaboration, where meetings, events, and training can happen.
Friday, volunteers from area businesses gave their time cleaning the building before Monday’s big move in.
“This has been a long-term vision. We have been thinking about this for many years. We work with a lot of nonprofits in the community. We hear about what their needs are. We are able to support them in different ways through grant funding, but we also really want to help build the capacity of nonprofits in our community because we know when they’re stronger they’re able to help more people who need it,” said Shirar Patterson, Heart of Maine President and CEO.
The total cost of this undertaking is $1.7 million, and they’ve already raised more than a million of it.
