‘The Game’ star details how his father battled addiction and was killed in hit-and-run accident
Hosea Chanchez, who rocketed to national fame playing Malik Wright on the hit show “The Game,” suffered the loss of his father, taken from him in a violent flash.
The actor revealed that his father, Ephraim Bristow, was killed just days ago in a hit-and-run accident in Montgomery, Ala. According to authorities, Bristow, 67, was found dead early Saturday morning on Troy Highway.
The police incident report stated that Bristow was struck by an unidentified driver and dragged more than a block by a driver who then fled the scene. Police raced to the scene at approximately 5 a.m. and discovered that Bristow had died there. Since the tragedy, no arrests or suspects have been announced as of Thursday, Oct. 23.
Chanchez took to Instagram to write a heart-crushing but beautiful tribute to his father, who was beloved by those who knew him and who also struggled with substance abuse.
Hosea Chanchez pays homage to his father
“The first person any boy wants to be is his father,” Chanchez began. “No matter how ruff the road is you’re always willing to take the path to get to your father & as a boy your father is your hero. Even if he’s the real villain. Not all hero’s wear capes some wear Afros and leather boots, mine did. My father was – can’t believe I just typed WAS. He was the man everyone in our town loved and adored. He was the man everyone wanted to be around. He was the life of every party he attended. He was fun.”
Chanchez’s dad struggled with substance abuse
Chanchez continued on the tribute to his father, saying, “We hated everything he wasn’t, because what he wasn’t, was a drug addict, he became one, but HE wasn’t one. He was a man of GOD who my grandmother and grandfather raised to be a kind man, who stood on his own, and respected himself, his family and community. Him ‘on drugs’ was just a reaction to a foreign entity being induced in his body. That guy wasn’t my dad.”
Chanchez continued, saying “In the end that foreign entity took over my father’s body and left us with a shell of a man. My father was more than that. & I will assure that’s what we remember most, just how incredible of a man he was. He didn’t deserve what happened to him. No one does.
“Two nights ago My father was killed on Troy highway in Alabama, and the murderer drug my father’s body a block & a half & then drove away like he was nothing.
“He didn’t deserve that. What a sad world we live in. I can’t even believe someone would do this to him. My father.
“Rip to my father, Ephraim Bristow I love you. Deeply. #RIP.”
