MacKenzie Scott donates $42M to Bay Area nonprofit for scholarships

San Rafael-based nonprofit 10,000 Degrees received a $42 million donation from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — At ABC7 News, we often highlight organizations that are helping to Build a Better Bay Area.

San Rafael-based nonprofit 10,000 Degrees received its largest donation in its 45-year history: $42 million.

The big donation comes from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott and Yield Giving. Scott is also the ex-wife of billionaire Jeff Bezos.

The nonprofit awards scholarships to low-income students. Its mission is “to achieve educational equity and to support students from low-income backgrounds to and through college to realize their full potential and positively impact their communities and the world.”
