COMING UP TONIGHT, WE STILL DON’T KNOW WHERE THE ROYALS WANT TO BUILD A NEW BALLPARK, BUT WE DO KNOW THE TEAM HAS BOUGHT THE MORTGAGE OF THE CAMPUS AT 119TH AND NALL IN OVERLAND PARK. IT’S ONE OF THREE POSSIBLE SITES THE TEAM IS REPORTEDLY CONSIDERING. KMBC NINE S JACKSON KURTZ LIVE AT 119TH AND ALL THE OLD SPRINT CAMPUS GETTING REACTION TONIGHT. JACKSON. YEAH, WE’VE REACHED OUT TO OFFICIALS WHO ARE WITH THE MANAGEMENT GROUP THAT OPERATES THE CAMPUS HERE. WE’RE STILL WAITING TO HEAR BACK, BUT WE TALKED TO A LOT OF FOLKS TODAY WHO HAD DIFFERENT OPINIONS ON THIS, A LOT OF PEOPLE. HERE’S WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY. THE OLD SPRINT CAMPUS, ONCE AGAIN, A POTENTIAL SITE FOR ROYALS BASEBALL. I’D LOVE TO BE CLOSER TO THE ROYALS. MANY WE TALKED TO NEARBY SAY TO THE ROYALS THEY’D BE HAPPY TO HAVE THEM. WE’VE ALREADY GOT SOME GOOD BUSINESSES AND RESTAURANTS HERE, AND I THINK BRINGING THE ROYALS HERE WOULD JUST ADD TO THAT. THE ROYALS SAYING IN A STATEMENT THEY’RE STILL EXPLORING ALL OPTIONS WHEN PICKING THE NEW BALLPARK. BASEBALL IS IT’S A FUN SPORT. IT’S LIKE NEAR PARK PLACE AND THIS REALLY NICE PART OF TOWN FOR THESE YOUNG ROYALS FANS AND BALLPLAYERS. A STADIUM HERE WOULD BE A GREAT FIT. LIKE A LOT OF GAMES, I’LL PROBABLY GET LIKE SEASON TICKETS. THERE’S STILL CONCERNS ABOUT PARKING AND TRAFFIC. TRAFFIC IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE A DOWNSIDE, NO MATTER WHERE WE PUT IT. PROBABLY LIKE BEFORE A GAME STARTS AND PROBABLY AFTER FOR A LITTLE BIT, BUT I FEEL LIKE THEY CAN WORK AROUND IT. BUT COME 2030 THEY WOULD LOVE SOME BACKYARD BASEBALL. BE COOL KNOWING IT’S MY HOMETOWN. I’VE GROWN UP HERE. I WANT TO GO PRO IN BASEBALL, SO IT WOULD BE AWESOME TO PLAY HERE ONE DAY. SOME YOUNG ROYALS FANS THERE. WE’VE ALSO REACHED OUT TO THE CITY OF OVERLAND PARK FOR COMMENT. WE’RE STILL WAITING TO HEAR BACK. WE ALSO REACHED OUT TO LEAWOOD NEARBY. THEY TOLD US THAT THE CITY IS HAVE ANY INFORMATION TO SHARE AT THIS TIME, BUT THEY REMAIN A STRONG SUPPORTER OF OUR LOCAL SPORTS TEAMS AND SENSE OF COMMUNITY AND PRIDE THEY BRING TO OUR REGION. LIVE IN OVERLAND PARK TONIGHT. JACKSON KURTZ KMBC NINE NEWS. JACKSON. THANKS. THIS IS ALL COMING TWO MONTHS AFTER EMPORIA PUSHED BACK ON CLAIMS THE SITE WAS BEING CONSIDERED FOR A ROYALS BALLPARK. THERE ARE TWO MORE SITES NAMED AS POSSIBLE LOCATIONS IN WASHINGTON SQUAR
