BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Brazos Valley Gives raised over $1.3 million for local nonprofits during this year’s annual giving day, with more than 4,000 donations supporting 200 organizations.

Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach topped the fundraising leaderboard with over $90,000 raised. The organization expects to open a new maternity house in November.

“It just feels kind of like this is for all of us. Because this maternity home and the ministry we do is for the people in our community. So, us being here and then also being #1 on the leaderboard just felt like a really sweet celebration of all that’s about to happen on this specific property,” said Andrea Buck with Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach.

Healthcare and community services benefit

Health for All, an organization that helps people with healthcare needs, raised over $10,000 with an additional $10,000 match.

“So, in one day, that’s over $20,000 worth of medical care, dental care, pharmaceuticals. That’s a lot of neighbors that are going to be able to get help,” said Liz Dickey with Health for All.

Dickey said the community consistently supports local causes.

“This community is a special place, and they have never not stepped up when we’ve asked them to. And yesterday is just another example of them coming and saying we hear you and were here for you,” Dickey said.

Supporting diverse community needs

Molly Watson with Brazos Valley Gives said the event recognizes how nonprofits meet community needs.

“The Brazos Valley recognizes that our quality of life is because of us serving those less fortunate, those in need. The elderly, pets, having the arts. All of those are our nonprofits. I think the Brazos Valley recognizes how incredible nonprofits are to our community,” Watson said.

The BEE Community, which provides meaningful work and belonging for adults with disabilities, also participated. The organization’s artisans craft products including soaps, candles, dog treats, stationery, and jewelry, sold locally and online.

Adéle Brown, executive director of The BEE Community, said the organization was overwhelmed with gratitude from the community’s generosity.

“BV Gives not only provides vital funds that help us further our mission, but it also gives our Artisans a chance to shine and allows more people to learn about the heart of The BEE community,” Brown said.

“The BEE community exists to create a space of meaningful work and belonging for people of all abilities, and Brazos Valley Gives is such a tangible reminder that we truly are better together.”
