MONROE, La. (KNOE) -Gene’s Caring Hands, a local nonprofit, continues to make an impact in communities across Northeast Louisiana by providing support for families in need.

CEO of the Nonprofit, Eugene Whitney says the organization has served thousands of people since it began in 2004.

He says, “I do what I do because I love giving back to the community. With so much going on in the world today, high inflation, we try to take the burden off of some of the parents by helping them.”

Stakeholders of the nonprofit say Gene’s Caring Hands has been there during some of the region’s toughest moments, from housing and feeding people during the latest winter storm to supplying clean water to Tallulah residents during the ongoing water crisis.

A stakeholder with the nonprofit, Kourtnee Jones, says its work goes beyond emergency response.

She says, “How can we not have children go back to school with school supplies and how can we, our children, want to be in athletics and extracurriculars? How can we see that, know that we can reach the need, know that we can draw the community together to feed these teams, to support these teams?”

This December, Gene’s Caring Hands plans to host a bike giveaway. Monroe chiropractor Dr. Dan Holt says he has seen the impact of the organization firsthand. He says it’s a tradition that shows the nonprofit’s heart.

He says, “One of the beautiful things he does, he has a compassion for the kids of the community and feels a real weight for the kids who don’t have bicycles.”
