Two neighborhood safe zones launched in Saginaw communities as part of nonprofit’s mission
SAGINAW, Mich. – A nonprofit aiming to reduce violence and build safe neighborhoods unveiled its first two “safe zones” in Saginaw, in hopes of creating well-defined spaces for residents to gather and connect.
HELP CVI, the Healing Engagement Love Presence Community Violence Intervention Program established the two safe zones in Saginaw in the following places:
- Houghton-Jones Neighborhood Association (1708 Johnson Street)
- Old Town Association (The corner of Court and Hamilton Street)
“The Safe Zones are more than paint and signs—they are a promise,” said Ralph Martin, Safe Zones, Director from HELP CVI. “They represent a shared vision of neighbors, partners, and organizations working side by side to create a community where every resident feels safe, valued, and supported.”
The safe zones have the following goals:
- Regular Community Walks by the HELP Street Team Task Force to build trust, presence, and accountability.
- Community Programming designed to foster connection, mentorship, and positive engagement.
- Monthly Safety Briefings to keep residents informed and equipped with resources.
- Drone Patrols for large events to provide enhanced oversight and ensure public safety.
Prominent safe zone markings include lime-green curbs and signs, symbolizing security and neighborhood pride.
