CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) -Every month, the Ohio Casino Control Commission reports the amount of money wagered, and winnings paid on sports gambling and August was the second highest month ever.

In August, the total gross receipts for online and in-person sports gaming in Ohio was $662,760,428.

Winnings paid in August were $584,477,638.

After subtracting promotional bets and voided wagers, the state taxed the gaming companies on their $72,709,323 in profits.

That is a 20.9% increase compared to August of 2024.

It’s the second highest month every, with May of this year coming in at $741 million.

“A late-August start to the college football season, a full slate of NFL preseason games, and a highly bet MLB month helped spur the year-over-year change in Ohio sports betting,” according to experts with Covers.com.
