LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Will there be a new sports complex coming to Lake Charles? The location is still up in the air as city officials continue to disagree on which area is ideal.

Initially, it was Fitzenreiter Road that was submitted and won a federal grant – on one condition – it had to be in a low to moderate income location.

Right now, the city is looking at three possible locations, including two sites on Fitzenreiter road. One property is now listed above its appraised value and the other is an new offer from The Greater St. Mary Baptist Church.

“This project has been approved by HUD on Fitzenreiter and that’s a done deal, that’s already been done,” said City Council President Criag Marks. “So when we come back with the capital one site here’s what we risk, we have to send it back to HUD and hope that HUD will approve it. If HUD don’t approve it, now you done opened a can of worms that Lake Charles can’t make up their mind.”

The next city council meeting is tomorrow at 5:30. p.m. city council members could possibly vote on the next location of the sports complex.
