One day after making her first public work appearance since filing for divorce from singer Keith Urban, Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman is postponing an upcoming speaking engagement at the University of San Francisco.

Instead, the school told ticketholders its Silk Speaker Series event on Oct. 18 will proceed with a high-profile replacement.

“While we are disappointed by the change, we are thrilled to announce that Kevin Costner will now be joining us as the featured Silk Speaker during CelebrateUSF,” said USF via an email sent Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Kidman is now rescheduled for April 11.

No reason was given for the postponement in the email, though USF’s website cited “a scheduling conflict.”

On Monday, Oct. 6, Kidman appeared at the Chanel runway show during Paris Fashion Week “with some fresh bangs” and “a chic white button-down and jeans for an effortlessly cool appearance,” according to People magazine. Kidman, 58, was recently named an ambassador for Chanel.

She was accompanied by the two daughters she shares with Urban, 17-year-old Rose and 14-year-old Faith. Kidman asked to be the primary residential parent in the custody agreement as part of the Sept. 30 divorce filing.

Kidman and Urban, 57, have been married for 19 years.

Meanwhile, Costner, the longtime box office star who won an Oscar for best director for “Dances With Wolves” (1990) and whose profile has recently risen thanks to the success of the series “Yellowstone,” will step in during CelebrateUSF weekend, the university’s biggest weekend for alumni and families.

USF said existing registration for the Kidman event will automatically transfer to the Costner appearance and not the rescheduled Kidman appearance in April. Instructions were issued for those who wish to receive a refund.

“We will share more details about that (April) event as the date approaches,” the email said.

USF’s Silk Speaker Series features A-list luminaries from different disciplines including entertainment, athletics, business and politics. The most recent speaker was actor Jeremy Renner, the Modesto native and Marvel star who survived a near-fatal snowplow accident in 2023.

Other speakers have included former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice; Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry and head coach Steve Kerr; tennis star Serena Williams; financial executive Charles Schwab; and actors Viola Davis, Mindy Kaling and Kal Penn.
