We love shopping like the stars, and as the temperatures have finally started dropping for most of us, we’re looking to our Hollywood darlings to help us transition from summer to fall staples. Taylor Swift looked stunning in knee-high brown boots, Emma Watson wore the perfect fall jacket, and Emily Blunt simply oozed rich mom energy in an oversized coat.
This week, our favorite celebrities leaned heavily into browns, both richer tones (like mocha) and lighter ones. We spotted a lot of tall boots and oversized jackets, but wide-legged pants were the star of the week — we saw them on Greta Lee, Jennifer Lopez, Mariska Hargitay, and Olivia Palermo, just to name a few. Small purses are all over the red carpet, and interestingly, it was the week of loud headwear.
Here are our eight favorite looks from the week, as well as three that we think missed the mark.
Jennifer Lopez had an incredible week. She looked stunning at the premiere of Kiss of the Spider Woman, but we can’t get over this stunning outfit she wore to LIVE with Kelly and Mark. She combined a sleek black hat with large sunglasses, a white button-down blouse, an enviable maxi skirt with green embroidery, and a red clutch. The green-and-red combo should give Christmas, but instead it works beautifully, showing off Lopez’s enviable figure and providing much-needed color to her black-and-white elements.
While filming for The Devil Wears Prada 2, Emily Blunt was spotted in our favorite trend of the season — quiet luxury (or “Rich Mom). It’s embodied by clean cuts, neutral shades, and luxurious vibes. Blunt paired a gorgeous, accent-free beige coat with a light gray sweater and simple gold necklaces.
Hot off her latest album release, Taylor Swift looks absolutely stunning in this fall-ready outfit. She paired a black turtleneck, plaid mini skirt, and knee-length brown boots. She carried a small black clutch and topped the look off with her signature red lip. This outfit is a 10/10 — it’s chic, it’s fall, and it’s a look her fans can easily replicate without breaking the bank.
I am deeply obsessed with the jumpsuit Rose Byrne wore to The View this week. It’s busy, and it doesn’t look like it would work as well as it does, but Byrne looks downright stunning. Her black jumpsuit is coated in a white paisley pattern. The suit has a glossy sheen and cinched waist. This is one of those outfit that would never look good on us common-folk, but looks incredible on her.
Kaitlin Olson is known for her hysterical portrayal of the trainwreck Dee on It’s Always Sunny on Philadelphia, but the star looked incredibly put together this week in a long-sleeved, lace-ridden black mini dress. It looks like an outfit you’d see on a Forever 21 model and but 50-year-old Olson wears it gorgeously (yes, she’s 50 — I had to Google it because she looks 27).
Emma Watson’s suede camel-brown jacket was the standout of the Miu Miu fashion show this week during Paris fashion week. It’s an approachable look that I feel like I’d be able to replicate myself (not something we normally say during fashion week). It’s accented by large gold buttons and a small black clutch.
Last week we wrote about Danielle Fishel’s divisive color-blocked shirt, and this week, Joey King said, “wait, what about me?” The starlet wore a patchwork mini dress that’s cinched at every curve — and we’re downright obsessed. The bright red works well with her auburn hair , while the ruffled texture helps hide any imperfections she may be hiding.
Lana Del Rey sported one of the best tops I’ve seen in months this week. She wore this oversized red-and-white striped top during Paris Fashion Week, pairing it with a pair of high-waisted cargo pants. Personally, I’m not a fan of cargo pants, but they work exceptionally well with this look, making Del Rey look like she’s getting ready to go on a yacht in Nantucket.
I’m a hobbyist quilter, and my first thought upon seeing Yasmin Le Bon in this two-piece set was “I think I have that fabric.” It’s a loud pattern, better suited for a throw blanket than an outfit you’d expect to see on a professional model. It borderline looks like pajamas, in which case slay queen – we’ve all shown up to work in our PJs at some point.
It’s hard to combine multiple patterns and pull it off well, and while we applaud the effort, we are not crazy about this outfit Emma Corrin wore during Paris Fashion Week. They wore a green fleece jacket over a navy blue collared shirt, paired with a completely different plaid patterned midi skirt and calf-length sparkly socks. It looks more like an outfit my daughter would wear if she closed her eyes and dressed herself.
Jennifer Lopez double dips on our list today. She looked incredible most of the week, but there’s one outfit I just can’t get over — this form-fitting brown leather jacket paired with way-too-oversized grey slacks. I’m not really crazy about anything happening blow the waist, here. The pants are way too large for the fitted top half of her outfit, and I’m not even convinced the color choice was appropriate for the rest of her fit. Overall, it’s an example of why wide legged pants need to be worn with a whole lot more discretion, in my opinion.
